Orla Kiely “Patent Trim Leather Big Tote”

Ok, attention everyone! As you may have noticed, this bag has patent leather parts on it, and even though I’ve had more than enough patent for this season, I like it! Wanna know why? I’ll tell you why - because these have a heavenly summery feel to them and the patent leather is used sparingly and does the job it was supposed to do just right! Go Orla, show them how patent is supposed to be used on summer bags! I really do not want to carry a patent leather bag during spring and definitely not on those hot summer days that are coming in a couple of months. There has been more than enough of patent in the AW07 collections and I don’t want my SS purchases to be clones of what the past AW collections brought us… No, no and no, I’m tired of the cold weather and short days, I’m craving for sunshine, I don’t need a new bag to remind me of winter… duh… I want to see something different, and I found it. I just figured out that I am not sick of patent leather per se, but rather the way it was used in the myriad of bags lately. Please tell me if there is any way you could associate this bag with winter? I didn’t think so!

Ok, lets get back to the bag, I think I have made my point about patent leather more than clear. This Orla Kiely piece is pure candy. Not something elegant or serious, but a definite hit for a summer bag! I cannot decide which version I like better - the white leather one with blue patent leather trim or the fierce red leather one with a white patent leather trim. This is my usual problem with Orla Kiely’s bags, I can’t seem to be able to make up my mind about which version I like better. It’s because all the versions have an unique feel to them, if you know what I mean. This “problem” I have is not so emphasized when it comes to other designers, eventhough I do find myself in a dillema every so often, but it seems to occur with every Orla Kiely bag I fall for.

Anyways, the bag is simply fab, having more than enough interior pockets for easy organizing. Featuring signature stem print lining, an adjustable handle (100 cm max length) and a magnetic closure… Everything is just right. I also love the front pocket detail, and how it looks different in these two versions.

Orla Kiely “Flower Box Print Shoulder Bag”

Oh, I was so happy to see some new bags on Orla Kiely’s site, and I was even more happy to see this beauty! It looks so sweet I could easily mistake it for a candy! Mmmm… See how much I like it? I liked pretty much every Orla Kiely bag I’ve seen, they all look chic and unique. I like some of them more than the others, but they are all special in their own way. I always liked having something noone else had, or at least being one of the first people to get it (I’m not talking just the “IT” stuff here, it applies to anything I like) - I enjoy being ahead It’s not like I will be rubbing that into people’s noses, it is just something that makes me happy ;).

Anyway, about this bag - Mmmmm…. I love it, I really do!! I feel overwhelmed. It is not a classy, serious type of bag, it is more on the fun and playful side and that is what i find so adoring about it. Simply looking at it makes me feel, hmmm, how should I put this… hahaha.. I don’t know, happy would not quite describe it.. Never mind, let’s say would give me a boost on a cloudy day.

It is laminated, which is the Orla Kiely signature, so cleaning it will not present a problem - just wipe it with a damp piece of cloth and it’s as beautiful as it ever was. You can choose between three color schemes - olive, grey and red. The red version is the least appealing to me, but it is quite difficult for me to say which one I’d go for. The olive one is the one that looks like tasty candy to me, on the other hand, the grey color scheme has the colors I’d usually go for.

The bag also has all the features we “demanding women” (*chuckle*) need - the interior mobile and zip pockets and a key chain, the magnetic closure and the leather reinforced handles. Uuuuuuuuh…. I love it, I just love it!! There is also a beach version of the bag available, which is somewhat bigger than this one, so if you find walking around with this one on your shoulder in the city a bit too much, you might like the idea of carrying it to the beach.

Orla Kiely “Multi Stem Shoulder Bag”

It looks like Orla Kiely is following the vivacious colors spring trend as well. She chose to bring her renomed stem print to life by releasing it in a multicolor version. It looks fresh and lively, just like we all feel in spring, like we just woke up from a long winter sleep. We are on the lookout for colors after a long and dark winter and she decided to bring a whole bunch of them.

I chose the multi stem tote because I find the print complementing the tote shape best. It is matt laminated, like most of her hit bags, so you won’t have to worry about any stains being visible on your bag because you can clean it pretty easily. You will only need a damp piece of cloth. The handles are made out of canvas and they are adjustabe, so you can transform it from a shoulder bag into a top handle bag. The thing that I do not particularly like is the hardware used on the straps, it is just a bit too noticable. But since this tote is a sporty bag, I will not hold the hardware against it.

Orla Kiely “Tumblers Print Handbag” and “Tumblers Print Zip Shopper”

Orla Kiely is best known for her retro prints and her signature laminated surface, very much reminiscent of table cloth. These particular handbags, as their name proposes, are featured with stacked tumblers print and they are a laminated/leather combination, which I think go along great. The details that are in leather/canvas are top handles, base protection and the belt around the top of the bag using which you can change the size and the look of the bag. The interior is featured with stem print lining, small zip pocket, small cellphone pocket and a keychain.

Shopper is bigger, has a zip closure which comes in handy, and available in three different colors: blue, grey and orange. Tumblers print handbag is available in blue and orange. I liked these bags in all colours available, so I do not have any recomendations, you choose which one you like best and which one would best go along with your usual outfits.
