Miu Miu “Small Metallic Shoulder Bag”

Tina wrote a post about a bag similar to this one, the Miu Miu nappa mini hobo bag which she thought of as pure eye candy a long time ago. Well, I am not head over heels with this one (which basically means that I’m not thinking “I have to have it… NOW!”), but I wouldn’t mind it one bit if it somehow ended up in my collection. There are some things I do not like about it, but the overall impression is nothing but positive.

As I mentioned in some of my eariler posts, gold is rocking this year, and I just love it in this smudged pale shade. Add the soft leather this bag is made of into the mix and you have a winner! Also, according to NAP, the leather is supposed to get even softer as the time goes by. Having that in mind and the bag infront of you, you’d really have to hate gold not to buy it .

Ok, let me write a word or two about those little things I do not like. The first thing, the one that is bothering me less, is the detachable clasps. I mean, I love the idea of having a choice when it comes to the style you’ll go for, but the appearance suffers a bit because of this (it’s not that I find it ugly, I only think it would look much better if the clasps weren’t detachable, but then you wouldn’t be able to carry it any other way). The other detail I dislike are the sides. They do not fit into the soft, cute little bag picture. This is something I couldn’t overlook, unlike the clasps. If the sides were smaller and more feminine, this bag would have turned out perfect (or is it just me yearning for the perfectly feminine look in this case?).

Anyhow, now that I got these two things I do not like about this cutie out of my system, I can continue with the compliments. This is the kind of bag you can carry both during the day and at night (I just love bags like this). Last but not least, the features: signeture clasp fastening, a small key pouch on the handle and an internal zip pocket.

To wrap it up, I really like it, but not enough for it to fit into my top 10 list for this season.

Miu Miu “Matelasse Leather Clutch”

Here we have an example of how shrinking big bags to a smaller size doesn’t always go the right way. Zoe was right when she said that the “smaller, younger twins” of popular bags often turn out to be even better looking and more desirable than the originals. The smaller versions are also almost always more affordable which also counts for something .

Anyway, back to Matelasse clutch.. Well… How do I say this delicately? Last time I saw a bag released in a smaller version was when Mahina XS was introduced. Not only I was disappointed at first, but I also cought myself really disliking it, in all the ways you can dislike a bag. It wasn’t one bit of what I expected it would be and, truth to be told, I couldn’t believe it. Zoe did a great job covering that bag so there no point in me repeting everything she has said - I agree with her and that’s it. As for this one… It isn’t really a younger twin of another Miu Miu, but the way it’s made and the details on it reveal the idea behind it. The idea was a rebirth of the original Miu Miu Matelasse Coffer Bag, but in a smaller size and for a different purpose - can you say bad idea? When you come out with something like the original Matelasse and make a splash with it, making people all around the world go crazy over it, and define a certain fashion era with it, you really need to stop right there and not try to reinvent it over and over again.

Those who didn’t originally like this collection won’t like it now either, no matter how much smaller, bigger or different in any way you make it. Those who did go crazy over it have already bought it and are happy with what they have. They have moved on a long time ago and won’t go back. As I said, the original was a boom, whether you like the way it looks or not, and no other bag will ever be able to fill its shoes.

As for this pochette - been there, done that. Signature clasp as a front detail, thin shoulder strap for carrying it and fuchsia fully lined interior, meh.

Miu Miu “Framed Fold Over Clutch”

Having covered the Miu Miu Nappa Mini Hobo and the Small Shoulder Bag, I think it is fair we make some room for this one as well. I purposely put this one in the same context with latter two bags because of the same type of nappa leather and the colors the bag comes in. We started with a small golden top handle hobo, moved on to a small turquoise shoulder bag and now we have this vibrating pink clutch. I’ve already stated my opinion about the nappa leather used on these three bags - it is so soft and gentle I wouldn’t mind having my pillow made of it - it’s totally delicious.

This bag attracted me with this bold pink color at first, but seeing the one in green made me think twice. I honestly don’t know which I like better. The pink one is vivacious and playful, but the subtle and calming note the green one has works even better for me. It’s not even an everyday green tone, it’s a very nice dimmed shade of green which looks just beautiful in contrast to the polished gold toned hardware and the interesting push lock closure placed on the front gold frame.

Perfect for the spring season, I really like it!

Miu Miu “Laminato Clutch”

Seeing this one reminded me of a friend of mine who will go absolutely crazy when she sees it, I can’t wait to message her and hear the reaction. I can imagine her at the store seeing the Laminato clutch, pulling her hair with one hand and grabbing the bag with the other. You see, she sometimes has strange ways of expressing her emotions when it comes to accessories. She’s not much of a bagddict but when she likes a bag, she really, and I mean REALLY likes it and I can see her name written all over this one. But enough about my friend, lets get to the bag.

It’s small and looks really catchy in the gold metallic finish, detailed with the signature Miu Miu buckle which gives it that extra touch. Notice how the buckle is used instead of a kiss lock closure, revealing the interior the same way a kiss lock closure would? I really like that. Kiss lock always sets me off, there is something special about it I cannot really put into words, and seeing this interesting implementation of a buckle closure had the same effect on me. I also like the unusual width/height ratio which also makes it a bit different, unusual and definitely yummy.

Miu Miu “Nappa Leather Tote”

Although this one has been on the shelves (and on my mind) for some time now, for some reason I never posted about it. If you haven’t seen it IRL then you probably won’t get what this bag is really about. I saw some pictures of it when it was first released, and I wasn’t really too impressed. Then a friend of mine brought one home from one of her trips to Europe, and seeing it in front of me made me change my opinion.

I could initially imagine this bag to work well with a pair of trousers and a simple shirt, nothing special, but seeing my friend combine this bag with outfits you would never have believed could work with it genuinely surprised me. This bag has grown on me because of it’s fabulous versatility. It works with almost any outfit imaginable, and the shape makes the interior surprisingly spacious allowing you to squeeze more stuff inside than it might look at first sight. The detachable shoulder strap can be left as a hanging detail when this delicious bag is carried as a top handle, but it can also work wonderfully if you want to carry the bag cross body. Nappa Leather Tote has an open top, although gathered to save you from worrying about your belongings falling out. As I said, it has really grown on me, I might end up buying it in the end.

Miu Miu “Shiny Dragonfly Clutch”

I really do not know where to start… This is unbelievable.. I have no clue as to why and how this clutch made it into production.. It really is hideous. I am fully aware of the recent artistic print and global / ethnic trends, whichever category you want to put this one in, but cmmon, this is just too much. It just might look slightly better had they chosen to leave out the tacky golden handle, but this is just yuck. Why did they have to release this when there are so many beautiful Miu Miu bags out there? They just HAD TO make one hideous bag so we would be grateful for the beautiful ones? I do not get it.

I believe this is the first negative post about a Miu Miu bag here at Bagddicted, and I hope it will be the last one as well. I am trying so hard to understand what kind of a thinking process resulted in “hey, dragonflies on a clutch with a shiny golden handle - that sounds just perfect!”. I really cannot believe they are expecting people to pay the price they are asking for it, I wouldn’t carry it even if I was given money just to take it home with me! If they left out the dragonfly and the shiny handle, it could have been a cute clutch, since there is nothing wrong with the shape and the color mix. I can’t think of anything else to say about it..

Miu Miu, I hope this was just a result of some spur of the moment, “let’s make something totally crazy”, kind of thing. We still love you for all the beauties you have delighted us with!

Miu Miu “Leather Hobo Bag”

Oh, I just love this one. It perfectly fits all of my S/S shoulder handbag: from shape and size to the color. Is there anything about it to not like? To be honest, if this bag was in any other color I wouldn’t be here writing about it. I’m so crazy over this color that I have a closet full of tunics and t-shirts in every possible shade of it, and after seeing this bag I think it would be better if I invested that money in a few bags like this one which wouldn’t end up just laying there collecting dust. I’ve already shared my opinion about spring/summer bags with you - any tote or clutch is more than welcome. When talking about totes in this case, I figure a few hobos are ok to mention since they fit almost the same category. One of those hobos is this one, and as for the others stay tuned… The totes somehow fit better into my vision of what a summer handbag should be. Take Fendi Matrioska, Burberry Roll Up, Hermes Garen Party or Longchamp Le Pliage Club Tote as examples, aren’t they perfect to have on your shoulder while you are walking from the beach to a nearby cocktail bar? Get the idea? Hobos, and leather ones especially, fit into a city scenario better.

The Leather Hobo Bag comes in a great shade of aubergine purple on a subtle, soft, slightly drenched but still shiny leather, detailed and lined with white stitches and gold toned hardware: a metal logo plate and shoulder rings. It is clear that the color is the strongest point of this bag, it just complements every detail perfectly. Put any other color it on it and it would simply lose its charm.

Handles are of a 10″ drop making it a perfect fit on your shoulder just as carried in your hand. Interior is twill lined, featured with zipped pocket and closed with a magnetic closure.

Miu Miu “Luxe Leather Frame Bag”

This bag comes from the same line as the Miu Miu Gathered Top Tote I wrote about at the begining of January. It practicaly looks the same but has some new adittions to it in terms of details. What I will try to do now is see just how convenient these novelties are and how they influence the impression I got from the older sister, and the things that made me like it.

For starters, the Gathered top tote is not a frame bag and it has a magnetic snap closure which isn’t the case with Luxe, which is featured with a push lock closure. When I saw this bag I started thinking about which one would be a better buy. The Luxe is framed, and that sloe fact guarantees to some extent that the shape of the bag will stay unchanged, but it also makes it look not as casual as the other one, which was the main reason I liked the gathered top one in the first place. I wouldn’t have even noticed it if it was one of the “serious” bags in this shape and size. The question is, how serious does Luxe look? I do not think it looks serious but it definitely is more serious than the gathered top one. The Luxe has a longer handle drop which is 5″ and the previous one had only a 3″ drop. Also, Luxe has a central compartment which is closed with the previously mentioned push lock closure and an additional open compartment on the front, which is a convenient upgrade. All other features are the same, the detachable shoulder strap, the fully lined interior, the interior zip pocket, the logo on the side of the bag, gold tone hardware…

The dimensions though, are slightly different, the size of Luxe is 13″w X 12″h X 5″d and the measurements of the Gathered tote are 14″w x 10″h x 7″d. The only difference that might be felt is regarding the depth, which is smaller by 2″ in the Luxe, but that will definitely not be your criteria for deciding which one to go for if you like them enough to want to purchase it. There are more important details on these bags you would want to consider.

To summarize, I liked the Gathered Top Tote, so I definitely can’t not like the Luxe tote. Take your pick ladies!

Miu Miu “Gathered Top Tote”

I don’t know about you, but I am still recovering from the New Years Eve party, so this is probably not going to be the post I’m going to brag about ;). I am going to try my best though. Since I have spent quite some time trying to find something I would like to post about, being able to imagine the bag “in action” was the key criteria in my deciding what bag to write about.

The more I look at this bag, the more I like it. I am like that.. I’ll first notice the bag, then I’ll imagine myself carrying it, then I’ll start imagining the outfits I would wear when I carry that bag. The more I think about it, the more I like the bag. It’s rarely the other way around.

This Miu Miu is a top handle bag, but fortunately, it comes with a removable shoudler strap. I don’t think I would like this bag as much if it was meant to be carried solely as a top handle bag, since the handle drop is only 3″. It is made of leather, featured with a magnetic snap closure, gold tone hardware, black fabric lining and an interior zip pocket. There is one thing I would change about this bag, and it is the gold Miu Miu logo on the side. Although I generally do not like, or buy for that matter, bags that scream “Look at me, I’m an XYZ”, in this case it somehow just doesn’t bother me that much, or make me like this bag less. Every rule has it’s exceptions, this is proof, I would buy this one even with the logo
