Maison Martin Margiela “Large Satin Sac Bag”

Thing that is really keeping me from buying this bag is it’s price. A satin bag isn’t worth this much money. No really, no matter what, you’ve got to keep in mind that this is a satin bag and not some ultra durable leather one. When it comes to women women and bags though, nothing is strange, even paying this much money for a satin bag.

Despite the dissapointingly high price, I am actually pretty delighted by the look of this bag. Being a hobo made of simple and beautifully colored sumptupus satin, this bag makes me wonder what else can a girl really want? I assure you this one will make you feel special. That feeling has it’s price though, and I’m not talking about money here, just imagine the constant anxiety about someneone spilling their drink on it or burning it with a cigarette, you tearing it or any other of the countless disaster scenarios.

The interior is satin lined as well, secured with clasp closed opened top. Shoulder strap is made of grained leather with handle and braided leather ties and of 16″ drop.

Maison Martin Margiela “Long Leather Bag”

Oh my God, I can’t stop laughing… It has a mouth, mustache… it’s a little Wilson! Remember Tom Hanks in “Cast away”? And his imaginary friend Wilson to whom he talked? Well, not so imaginary, because it kind of really became his friend hah… well… if you’ve planed to get stuck somewhere in a desert, on a deserted island or anywhere where you’d be all alone, this is the bag you want to have with you. I mean, when you are buying a bag, you might as well buy a multifunctional one… I bet if “Cast Away” was filmed now, it would be this bag with a Wilson name tag… And Wilson bag sure beats Long Leather Bag when it comes to naming a bag…

But, for real now. All in all, this isn’t an ugly bag. It’s not too attractive, but it’s not a fug. The only thing, besides that face which keeps looking at me, that makes no sense on it, are the little bows on the zippers which don’t fit the bag in any way. Notice how the bag is structured, defined and somewhat stern - from the color to the shape of it, there’s nothing girly to it. Then tell me, what are those little bows for? I mean, no no no… You don’t put little cute details on a bag that looks like this. The only way that this bag could be taken seriously would be if just one zipper is used and the other one was kept at the bottom side of the slit to avoid the “Wilson effect”.

As for the material, size and practicality, it’s all good. Combining smooth leather in grey color with small amount of polished silver metal hardware can hardly ever go wrong especially on a bag of this size. Handles are made of rolled leather with metal bar attachments, which is great if you carry it as top handle bag, I’m however not sure how well would it work as a shoulder bag.

Maison Martin Margiela “Chain Main Wristlet”

First of all, we’re talking about a Belgian fashion designer who has been working for some time for Jean Paul Gaultier before releasing his first collection under his own label “Maison Martin Margiela” in 1988. The best, and most often used word to describe his designs is “artisanal” and we can safely say he’s a visionary.

Second of all, I will be honest and say I’m not very much in the know when it comes to his designs. I did, from time to time, see some of his handbags, items from his clothing line here and there, but it’s not like he’s on my list of the designers I pay close attention to.

After taking a close look at what he thinks women should accesorize their outfits with, this is the only bag that caught my eye and in a way that I couldn’t stop thinking of it. I didn’t write this post immediately on purpose. I figured it’s better if I let my impressons settle down first. Other bags are also nice, but this one really stands out among them, no doubt. At first glance it has a shape of a cosmetic case, but the wrist strap and little metal studs give its purpose away. This one isn’t made to carry your make-up-essentials… This one is made to steal the show wherever you show up and don’t think you’ll achieve a lay-low look with it. It’s armor gives it an attitude which makes this bag ideal for those situations when you really want to make a statment. The length of the grained leather wrist strap is adjustable from 6″ to 7″ on a metal chain, it is zip top closed and the interior is fine textile lined with a zip pocket.
