Burberry “Canvas Tote”

Here’s a nice twist on the traditional check pattern that we all love. I really like the bag, but I can’t help myself thinking that it would only work for the warmer part of the year. I guess it’s because of the material. As far as I am concerned, canvas works for warm and dry weather only. If I buy a bag during the winter, I simply can’t carry it during the summer time only, regardless of the material or the color. Can you imagine buying a brand new bag and not being able to carry it for months? I can’t. I should probably try to get rid of that prejudice, but I just can’t help it. It’s like I have this blockade in my mind and I’m sick and tired of it to tell you the truth. Ok, baby steps I guess… This is not only a summer-time tote. Why should it be? It’s made of canvas and released in May, so what? A bag is a bag, especially if it’s a nice and rather simple and not too demanding one like this is. That means it can, and should be carried whenever we feel like it! Ok, I feel better now… So let’s get down to business. I was saying… Oh yes…

I like the enlarged check pattern on this bag. It makes it look more casual and laid back. It’s still perfectly recognizable, even without seeing the metal logo plate on front, but it’s not overwhelming. The smooth calfskin is used for the handles as a contrast to the canvas bag body. The interior is featured with a zip pocket, a phone pocket and one open pocket. I like it.

Burberry “Leather Tote”

Having posted about two Burberry bags we didn’t like recently, I just I had to find something from one of the Burberry collections and post something positive and put my heart to rest. I just hope I’m not too boring with with my obsession with white bags, but this time it’s not about the white color. It’s about this bag being beautifully simple and perfect for almost any use imaginable. The fact that it’s white is a mere coincidence in this case. There’s no need to ramble about its looks or quality, since you’re probably well aware of both, but I do have to say I absolutely love it. It’s as simple as they come. Burberry “Cutout Drawstring Shopper”

Cough… You don’t want to be seen with this one. No no… Even though I am a Burberry fan, that doesn’t mean I don’t have eyes and a sense of style. I mean, this kind of mash up can never look good in my eyes. I’ve said it already: freshening up a well proven shape and pattern, such as the Burberry check, with some creative play is usually a good idea, but for the love of God, don’t push it over the edge.

Remember how we loved Burberry Metallic Mesh Tote? That’s a good example of how to do it right, this one, on the other hand, is not. You cannot simply take a pattern as delicate and established as the Burrbery check and mix it with shaped cutouts wich show the underlying material… I mean you can, it’s just that I won’t buy it. They made a bag which is neither innovative nor intriguing - I actually find it rather repulsive. The thing that makes it even worse is that the bag is nicely shaped and looks really practical. Somewhere on its way to becoming a fug it had real potential, which unfortunately can’t be recovered anymore, no matter what you do. It’s a real shame because it would look great with the drawstring corseted or loosened.

As for the interior features - it has a zip, a cell and a PDA pocket to help you arrange your essentials.

All in all, wait and I’ll find a better deal for you, and be more than pleased to suggest it…

Burberry “Patchwork Check Bucket Bag”

So Burberry disappoints me once again. First of all, I’m not a fan of the “bucket” shape and most of all, I’m definitely not a fan of making fun of signature traditional patterns like the Burberry check is. I just don’t get. Is there anyone who would actually consider buying this bag and carrying it? The only reason I can think of that would make me buy this bag is to get one piece out of the stores and stash it somewhere it will never be found. I almost cannot believe I’m talking about a bag in this way, but it’s not my fault but the designers’ and I’m not going to sit here and say nothing, especially since it’s my job not to do so. You tell me, is this something fresh or maybe playful and catchy, because I just don’t get it!?

Usually I diss a bag only when I’m feeling grouchy because of the lack of any inspiration whatsoever when it comes to fug bags, but today I’m not grouchy and it still sets me of, which means this is a big deal. I am not going to cover the features of this bag just for the kicks of it. Enough said…

Burberry “Leather Sling”

I noticed this bag some time ago in one of the Burberry stores and having bumped into it online today, I decided to make a post about it. It is nothing spectacular, but you can’t deny it’s elegance and alluring simplicity which is what drew me to it in the first place. The version I’ve seen in the store was in black leather and the one I found online is in gold, which I like even more since the gold toned hardware is not as noticable as it is on the black version.

Another thing I love about it is it’s versatility. The shoulder strap can be removed which allows you to carry the Leather Sling as a clutch or transform it into a wristlet. This is always welcome because it allows you to choose which style you’ll go for, depending on your mood and/or outfit. However, the clips would look more elegant if they couldn’t be detached, but it is not a major setback.

Apart from being completely transformable to your liking, being in this color, this bag would look just right in any season which further reinforces the versatility of this little gem. It is big enough to carry all your essentials on your night out (I just can’t imagine myself carrying this bag during the day, possibly in another color, but in gold definitely not).

As for the features, it has a zip top closure, the interior is lined in house check and featured with a zip pocket and on the front you can see the D-ring details and the Equestrian knight logo (which is pracitcaly invisible in the golden version).

Burberry “Leather Overnight Bag - Bowling Tote”

This is genuine Burberry style. This bowling tote gets freshened up every now and then, and as far as I can remember it always ends up being a hit. It is because of the divinely simple shape which can hold be spiced up with almost any detail immaginable and still look awesome. The slightly gathered front which is featured on this bag always gives bags that beautiful feminine touch, so the only thing left to do is to find a new material, a new color or some interesting detailing, and you’ve practicaly got an instant IT bag that will survive much more than a single season. Speaking of material, this one it is made of leather trimmed to achieve a shiny, glossy look and subtly but noticably perforated which is something I really like in a bag. The pewter color is what I love the most about this bag, it makes it even more stunning, edgy and chic than it was before.

Until I saw this version, I always tought of Burberry Bowling Bag as an all time classic, but not the kind of bag that would cause a lot of buzz with every new version that comes out.Anyway, there’s not much to say about the exterior since I’ve already covered that, so I’ll go proceed to the interior. Nylon lined and featuring a zipped and a dual patch pocket, it fits the exterior perfectly. The bottom is secured with four metal feet, so when you rest it somewhere, the leather won’t stick to the surface as it usually happens with this kind of trimmed leather.

I will make this post strictly informative, since I have already written a post about the Warrior in which I expressed my feelings about it. I just wanted to let you know that it is available for online purchase at Nordstrom.com and to briefly cover the available versions. You can choose between the white, black and trench leather Warrior, and the large canvas Warriors which are available in the nova beige and nova trench. Both large canvas Warrior versions did not quite appeal to me, but I have to admit that the Warrior, in these plain colors, does not look as bad to me as it did when I was writing my original post about it. It still would not be my first choice, nor would it be on my wish list…

Burberry “Metallic Mesh Tote”

As I said eariler, I dont really have a firm opinion when it comes to Burberry’s check pattern. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes it just doesn’t. I like it better when it’s just a detail, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t go for a check bag. This bag has been out there for some time now, but it’s not one of those you’ve got to post about the exact moment it’s released. At least I think it isn’t.

I like the fact that they stuck with their original tote shape because it was and still is real hit, so it would be suicidial to play around with it. It’s always better to add something new to a well established shape and then if it’s a miss - it’s a miss… But the miss is just that detail, not the whole bag. With this one it’s obvious they were fully convinced that the shape and the check detail can work well with pretty much everything, so they went for metallic trimm and they did it right. Put the new metallic, glittering mesh layer on an old traditional check pattern and you’ve got the perfect combination. As for the removable shoulder strap, in this case, I wouldn’t leave it hanging even as a detail - this bag doesn’t need it. Fresh and chic - what more can you ask?

Burberry “Studed Check Hobo”

This is merely a follow up on the post I already did about the Burberry Mini Studed tote and hobo which I wrote a few days ago. I was browsing Nordstrom just now and I bumped into this new arrival and I just had to share it with you. This version is featured in a grey and green check, which is more subtle than the regular check version, but a bit more refreshing. This version is a bit larger, and a bit more expensive than the regular check one. The choice between these two boils down to whether you’d like to have a more subtle version or the one which stands out more. I love both, but I am clinging a bit towards the regular check version.

Burberry “Warrior Bag”

The Warrior bag has caused a lot of buzz, and it is mainily because of it’s sky high price. The price for the gold aligator skin Warrior is £13 000, which has caused quite a few negative reactions. When I first saw it and noticed the price tag, the first thought was:”Waaaait a sec, £13 000 for a bag that you will be able to carry throughout this season but next year, when it isn’t such a hit anymore, you couldn’t use it for anything, thus have another “dust collector” on your hands?? Nooooo…” I have seen many people think the same way I do, but there will definitely be a high demand for the Warrior in the super rich circles - it is expensive and it is limited edition, what else do you need? But for all not-so-super-rich people, purchasing this bag makes no sense, even if they could afford it and never look back. There are, of course, less expensive versions of Warrior so I will focus on those in my post.

I would like to state that Warrior, eventhough it is something new and definitely something different, didn’t quite appeal to me. It strikes me as a bit odd, and I usually love the bags I buy, they sure do not look odd to me. The ones that would appeal to me most would probably be the least expensive version - the one which is in soft leather, and the black version with metal studs, although I am still not sure if I like the metal decorative studs and the cube toggle combination. I am not much of an exotic bags fan, and in this case, I would prefer the non exotic version. There is another version of the Warior - the nova check Warrior, which also caught my attention, but not because I liked it more then the original Warrior, but because of the contrast in the check and the gold toned hardware which I find really cute, yes, thats the word, cute.

The one thing I like about Warrior is the way it’s interior is organized. It has three compartments, out of which the central one is zipped and features a zip and patch pockets, and the compartments on the sides are featured with magnetic top closures. Since it has multiple compartments it is ideal for organizing your essentials, for example, if you are carrying a magazine with you, you can separate it from the rest of the stuff. I know I have a hard time finding things when I carry a magazine with me.

And that’s about all I could say about this line. It certainly did catch my attention, but my verdict is that there are much nicer bags out there.
